Top Sartorial Tips from a Jermyn Street Tailor
Tailoring expert Waqar Liaqat has more than a decade’s experience in menswear and has been working in our flagship store on Jermyn Street for three years. We caught up with him to discuss how to achieve sartorial success in three easy steps.
Quality is key
"My motto is ‘quality over quantity!’ Cheaply made clothes always look cheap and they never last long. I would always advise gentlemen to invest in good quality tailoring made from natural material, such as pure wool suits, pure cotton formal shirts and pure silk ties. It’s obvious if your tie is made from synthetic material!"
Experiment with colours and patterns
"Never be afraid to experiment with bright colours and bold patterns. You can pull an outfit together by coordinating the colour of your pocket square with your shirt. This creates a smart yet eye-catching look. No matter what palette you choose, as long as it’s tailored properly it will always look smart. Anyone can wear any colour if you know how to put things together."
Fit comes first
"In tailoring, nothing is more important than properly fitted garments. I do get lots of customers asking for fitting advice and I advise them it’s all about the little details in tailoring. If you’re not sure about the right fit for you, you should always ask an expert. Quality tailors and retailers should always have experts who can advise you on your fit and recommend appropriate alterations. I always ensure that my clothes fit to perfection because customers will trust me to do their fitting properly."
